Description

Imperial Residences tour is specially designed for customers who have limited time in Saint Petersburg and need to maximise their time there.

This is your chance to visit two "must see" suburban attractions of Saint Petersburg in one day: Catherine Palace with its world famous Amber room and spectacular Peterhoff gardens.

Both places used to be one of the first Summer Imperial residences in the environs of Saint Petersburg.

Shortly after meeting your guide at your hotel, you will commence the journey towards Catherine Palace. We will be travelling 20 km out of the city into the suburbs of Tsar Village, located 20 km from the city center.

The drive will be a leisurely hour during which your guide will introduce the history of the royal residences and draw your attention to city highlights that you pass along the way.

The suburban residences of the Russian royal family were first built at the start of the XVIII Century, when Saint Petersburg emerged as the new capital of the Russian Empire.

Elizabeth I built Catherine Place after she had inherited the land of Tsarskoe Selo. She was the daughter of Peter the Great and Catherine I and with special affection named the palace after her mother.

Without doubt Catherine Palace is not to be missed during a visit to Saint Petersburg, especially for the renowned Amber room and the dazzling state rooms of the Golden Suite.

The next stop of the tour is Peterhoff which is around 45 minutes drive from Catherine Palace. While travelling from one suburb to another, you will have a rare chance to see different country-side around Saint Petersburg.

Following Peter the Great’s trip to Europe, he aspired to build a Summer residence that would resemble the French Versailles and thus the triumphant and stunning Peterhoff was built.

The opening of the palace took place in 1723 during the high point of Peter the Great’s reign over the Empire.

On our day tour of the Imperial residences you will get the chance to visit the Lower Gardens of Peterhoff and admire the fountain jets. You will discover the intricate and technologically advanced fountain system. Although much of the piping system was damaged by mines during WWII many sections still remain intact.

The return trip to Saint Petersburg includes a drop off at your hotel.
